Floor Types · Concrete
Concrete is the finished floor now, polished in offices, retail, and breweries, sealed across warehouses and industrial space. We clean, densify, polish, seal, and maintain it, matched to whether your slab is polished, sealed, or coated.
| Type | What it is | How it's maintained |
|---|---|---|
| Polished | Mechanically ground and densified; the slab itself shines | Clean and periodically re-polish or burnish; no wax |
| Sealed | Penetrating or film sealer for stain and moisture protection | Clean and reseal as the sealer wears |
| Coated | Epoxy or urethane coating bonded to the slab | Maintained as a coating and recoated as it wears |
Polishing grinds the slab with progressively finer diamonds while a densifier hardens it. How far the polishing goes sets the sheen.
| Finish | Roughly | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Matte / satin | ground and densified, lower grit | Low sheen, soft reflection |
| Semi-polished | around 800 grit | Moderate sheen |
| Polished | around 1500 grit | High, clear gloss |
| High-polished | around 3000 grit | Mirror-like gloss |
Grinding and polishing concrete can release respirable crystalline silica, a serious health hazard. We control it with HEPA dust extraction and shrouds, wet methods where appropriate, and respiratory protection, in line with OSHA's silica standard. See dust control.
| Frequency | Task |
|---|---|
| Daily | Dust mop to remove grit that scratches the polish |
| Routine | Auto-scrub with a pH-neutral cleaner |
| Periodic | Burnish or re-polish to restore sheen |
| As needed | Reapply guard or sealer for stain resistance |
Concrete work is priced per project, polishing, sealing, and coating differ widely by slab condition, square footage, and the finish you want, so we scope it on assessment. The cost calculator covers vinyl strip-and-wax services; for concrete, request a written quote.

Usually yes. If the slab is sound, densifying and progressive diamond polishing bring up a durable natural shine without pouring a new floor.
Polishing gives a hard, glossy, low-maintenance surface; sealing is simpler protection against stains and moisture. The right choice depends on the space, the look, and the slab.
Polished concrete isn't waxed; it's maintained by cleaning and re-polishing. Sealed concrete can take a floor finish in some commercial settings, but it's not the usual approach.
Dust mop to remove grit, auto-scrub with a pH-neutral cleaner, and burnish or re-polish periodically. No recurring strip-and-wax.
Grinding can release respirable crystalline silica, a serious hazard, so it's done with HEPA dust extraction, wet methods, and respiratory protection. See our dust-control guide.
Done on a sound slab and maintained, the polish lasts many years, with occasional re-polishing or burnishing to restore sheen.
It resists stains far better than bare concrete, especially with a densifier and guard, but oils and acids should still be cleaned up promptly.
